The opportunity

Germany needs experienced professional drivers

Germany’s transport and logistics industry has a long-term need for qualified truck drivers.

We connect experienced South African Code 14 / EC drivers with established German employers offering long-term career opportunities.

South Africa is particularly well suited to this pathway. Many drivers already have substantial professional heavy-vehicle experience, and South African driving licences have a favourable route for conversion under German driving licence rules.

However, your South African licence alone does not mean you can immediately work commercially in Germany.

Before full professional deployment, the correct immigration, licence conversion and professional driver qualification requirements must be completed.

We coordinate that journey with you — from initial assessment through to working as a professional driver in Germany.

Who we are

Who is behind Drive Germany?

Drive Germany is operated by KML Personal, a German recruitment company specialising in the recruitment, preparation and integration of international skilled workers.

For more than 12 years, we have supported employers and international candidates through complex recruitment projects involving language training, immigration, qualification, relocation and integration in Germany.

Successful international recruitment requires close cooperation between everyone involved. We work with selected German employers, public authorities, training providers and industry associations to coordinate the different parts of the process.

Our role is to connect these parties and guide candidates through the entire journey — from recruitment and preparation in South Africa to qualification, relocation and integration in Germany.

Our objective is long-term integration — not short-term placement.

How the programme works

A structured pathway
from application to Germany

Relocating to Germany as a professional truck driver involves several legal and practical steps. Drive Germany coordinates the process so that candidates, employers and authorities know what happens next.

01 · Apply & pre-screen

Complete the online application. We review your licence, PrDP, professional experience, references and basic eligibility.

02 · Interview & assessment

Suitable candidates are invited for an interview and, where required, a professional or driving assessment.

03 · German employer selection

Qualified candidates are introduced to selected German employers. The employer makes the final employment decision.

04 · Language, documents & visa

After selection, German language preparation begins while employment, immigration, licence and visa documentation are prepared.

05 · Relocation & qualification in Germany

After visa approval, candidates relocate to Germany. We coordinate onboarding, continued German learning, licence conversion and the required professional-driver qualification.

06 · Start your professional driving career

Once all required licences, qualifications and legal requirements are complete, you can begin full professional deployment as a truck driver in Germany.

Adult learners working together during language preparation

German training starts in Cape Town and continues after relocation to Germany.

German language training

German is part of the programme

You do not need to speak German before applying. You do need to be genuinely willing to learn it.

Your German language training will take place at the Goethe-Institut in Cape Town as part of the preparation for relocation to Germany. At the end of the relevant course level, you will sit an official Goethe examination and, if successful, receive the corresponding Goethe-Zertifikat.

You will need German for your workplace, safety instructions, colleagues, customers, authorities and everyday life in Germany. Language training therefore continues as part of your integration after arrival.

The practical reality

QUALIFY IN ENGLISH.
BUILD YOUR LIFE IN GERMAN.

Working and living in Germany

This is more than a job abroad

Moving to Germany is a major life decision. It means a new country, a new language and a different way of working — but also the opportunity to build a stable, long-term future.

Germany offers structured employment, strong worker protection, healthcare, social security and the possibility to build a life beyond the job.

We want candidates to make this move with realistic expectations. Life in Germany will be different from South Africa, and successful integration takes effort from both the candidate and the employer.

Be prepared for a real change

Learning German, colder winters, a different workplace culture, strict transport and safety rules, punctuality, German administration and — in some cases — initially living away from family.

Our goal is not short-term placement.
We want candidates to build a stable career, integrate successfully and create a long-term future in Germany.

WORKING AND LIVING IN GERMANY

What can you expect from working in Germany?

Selected candidates receive a regular German employment contract directly with their employer. The exact package depends on the employer and position, but all important conditions are explained clearly before you accept an offer.

Gross monthly salary

Typically around approximately €3,000–€3,600 gross per month for experienced full-time drivers, depending on employer, routes, working hours and experience.

Paid annual leave

German law guarantees a minimum of 24 working days of paid annual leave based on a six-day working week, which corresponds to 20 days on a five-day working week.

Health & social security

Employees participate in Germany’s social-security system, including health insurance, pension, unemployment and long-term care insurance.

Paid sick leave

German employment law provides continued salary payment during qualifying periods of illness.

Allowances & supplements

Depending on the position, additional payments may apply for travel, night work, Sundays or public holidays.

Clear employment conditions

Salary, working hours, probation period, leave, allowances and accommodation arrangements are explained before you sign your employment contract.

WHY GERMANY?

What can Germany offer you and your family?

Relocating is about more than earning a different salary. For many South African drivers, Germany offers a combination of stable employment, social protection and long-term opportunities that can make the move worthwhile.

No country is perfect, and life in Germany comes with its own challenges. But these are some of the benefits candidates can expect when building a long-term future here.

Stable long-term employment

Germany has an ongoing need for experienced professional drivers and offers structured employment under German labour law.

Health insurance

Employees are covered through Germany’s health-insurance system, giving access to doctors, hospitals and medical treatment.

Pension & social security

Employees and employers contribute to pension, unemployment, long-term care and other parts of Germany’s social-security system.

Paid leave & employee protection

German employees receive paid annual leave and benefit from established rules around working conditions, illness and employment protection.

A future for your family

After you have settled and integrated, approx. 12 months, family reunification may be possible and children can access Germany’s education system.

Reliable infrastructure

Germany offers established transport networks, public services, utilities and infrastructure that support everyday life and employment.

Clear legal rights

Salary, working hours, leave and other conditions are governed by a written employment contract and German law.

A path to long-term integration

The aim is not a temporary overseas job. Candidates who build their lives in Germany may develop longer-term residence and integration opportunities over time.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

A new job is only the beginning.

The goal is a stable life and a long-term future in Germany.
